OUR STORY

Forty Acres Brewing grew from a home brew fanatic.  Living in China most recently in a high rise apartment and looking for a hobby, Trev the head brewer, would brew up a storm in the little kitchen and Jo would then invite her mates round for a sample.  When the couple decided it was time to head back to Australia to give their kids a taste of Australia, they bought 40 Acres of land in Sandon, Central Victoria and started to grow their own hops.

Now a year on the Forty Acres enterprise is moving in to production of their own beer.

THE FARM

The farm is completely off the grid, not connected to town power, water or sewage Forty Acres is a far cry from Trev and Jo's lives in China.  One year in they have survived a Ballarat style winter, a summer of near call bushfires and learnt to rabbit proof, sheep proof, chicken proof and kangaroo proof most things.

Trev planted Cascade, Chinook, Pride of Ringwood and Victoria hops last spring and these were harvested with much pride in February 2015.  This year the height of the hop trellis has doubled in size and the bines are growing amazingly. There's high hopes that they'll be enough of these organically grown hops to allow for the release of a beer using 100% organic ingredients come Autumn.

In addition to beer, Forty Acres also sells free range eggs and has farmstay accomodation available for bookings on airbnb and tripadivsor.

Hosts were outstanding, our 2 & 4 year old enjoyed the relaxed friendly and quiet atmosphere. Hosts children took our kids under their wing and made our relaxation all the better. Very peaceful, simple and relaxed living. Thoroughly enjoyed.”

Jo & Trev are great people to socialise with over a few beers & a feed & are super relaxed, flexible & happy to help out.

I had a comfortable bed & waking up to the natural sounds of the Aussie bush was a real treat. A nice stroll around the property & lending a hand with farming duties gave me as authentic a bush/farm stay as I could have hoped for.

Can't wait to go back!

I stayed a delightful two nights at Forty Acres in September 2014. The shed is full of character and curling up in front of the fire with a book and a glass of wine was exactly what this exhausted city-dweller needed to relax.
